A note: This page is populated with pieces of art that have helped me survive, and helped me to feel less alone and hopeless, in dark times. I'm sharing them in the hopes that maybe they will bring you some distraction, joy, levity, or inspiration when you're having a Bad Time. If you're experiencing a serious crisis and would consider reaching out a loved one, please do that. But if you'd rather talk to a professional right now, here are links to the 988 Lifeline and the Trevor Project (LGBTQ+ support). |
Hello Friend.
I'm sorry you're having a bad time.
The world really is some shit, huh?
No, I really do understand. I've been in the depths of exhaustion and despair, fantasizing about how I would end it, just so I could get one god damned moment of rest.
I'm glad you're here.
I feel like one's best bet when experiencing overwhelming grief and shame is people. Talking to someone you trust.
But maybe you don't want to turn to people right now. Maybe you feel alone or like a burden. You're probably neither of those things, but I won't argue with you.
I will tell you that another thing that can help is art. Because art is made by people, who have had human experiences. Like you!
Most art, whether it's meant to do so or not, makes us feel less alone, or that someone else out there sees what we see. Here are some pieces of art that make me feel less alone.
Chose one, or as many as you want, that describes the kind of grief you're feeling right now, and maybe something can help you.
It won't fix us, but maybe it will keep us alive another hour, another day longer. Maybe it will inspire action or solutions or at least a little hope in you. Please allow it to do so.
